Best Dentists in Costa Rica?

I am looking to get some dental work done in Costa Rica - including some cosmetic work. Who are some of the best dentists in Costa Rica?


Answer:
Well, it's difficult and subjective to say who the best dentists are, but there are many great dentists located in and around San Jose. The one dentist I have experience with is Meza Dental Care, which I found through a Medical Tourism book. There I had a general check-up and a couple fillings done. Their office was super clean with modern dental equipment, and their prices were pretty reasonable - certainly better than what I would have paid at home and in line with the better dental clinics in San Jose. They have a toll free number you can call from the States: 1-877-337-6392.

Another dental clinic recommended by my Medical Tourism guide book was Prisma Cosmetic Dentistry, which is a well established clinic with modern equipment and an on-site lab. They've been featured in numerous articles and about half their clientele are Americans, Canadians, and Europeans. They can be reached toll free from the States at 1-866-741-8194.

There are numerous other good dentists though, many of whom are members of US dental organizations and who have trained abroad - just make sure to do some research first. Thanks for the question!

This year,my wife and I faced the reality of finally needing ten of thousands of dollars of Periodontal and Cosmetic Dental Surgery here in the US. It was, as they say , "time to pay the piper". The Dentist practices here in the US gave us an estimate of $40,000 for all the procedures we needed.
Knowing we were not going to take a second mortgage on our home to pay for this ,we began asking friends, family and members of our community about Dental work in Panama or Costa Rica.
Several close friends had spent a great deal of time and money 'vetting' credible Dentists in San Jose, Costa Rica. We had ten thousand questions. He eventually answered them and convinced us to consult with Dr. Delfin Barquero at Da Vinci Dental in San Jose. The Dentist has trained all over the world. He was a Professor at The Dental School in San Jose. He called us at home and discussed a treatment plan based on having received and reviewing our X-rays from the US.
We found a superb Bed and Breakfast near the office, booked our flights and arranged for our consultations to begin the day after arriving. Ten days later we were home and had been transformed through his superb and painless work at 1/4 the cost our US Dentist quoted us. Now, 9 months later we are both still thrilled with the work done in Costa Rica by Dr. Barquero and are planning a winter vacation back in beautiful Costa Rica for cleaning and a safe vacation away from the winter of North Carolina.
This Dentist is one of the best in the Central America. He speaks perfect English and is totally professional. He has a staff that includes Periodontist, Endontists and is trained in the most modern Cosmetic and Implant techniques. He is not looking to talk you into implants or other exotic procedures if you don't need them. Put your worries away and call his office for a consultation this year!

I wanted to tell you how happy I am with my decision to have my dental work done in Costa Rica paticularly in Davincis Dental Designers Group. My dental treatment overseas was facilitated by a trusted medical tourism provider in Colorado called PlacidWay.

I needed a major dental work but just couldn't afford it back at home. I have insurance but does not cover implants. That's why I opt to do the treatment abroad. I have heard many good reviews in Mexico and Costa Rica. The major factors that influenced me to seek treatment outside US are the cost, distance, and the quality of work.

The clinic is so clean and the facilities are first class. The employees look all very professional and was really nice. My experience was excellent and more than I expected. My dentist name is Dr. Delfin Barquero. He has very good qualification, as I've researched his profile very well. I returned to his clinic after 5 months to complete the implants. Today I just coudn't be happier with the result, my new implant looked exactly like my real teeth and I even had a hard time telling them apart.

I could not have expected a better results back at home as I have received in CR. I will continue to have all my major dental work done there as they have earned my trust very well.

Dr Anglada in San Jose is phenomenal. We are hear now and my friend John is getting implants. Let me tell you... I have worked in the healthcare industry (including dental) for years on and off, including teaching physicians EMR systems... no easy task! Do I have credibility now? To continue, John did lots of research on CR dental practices (lawyer by education) and found 3 he looked into for 1 year. His decision on the practice to work with was not made until we arrived here this week. He went to 2 practices and, hands down... Dr Anglada and staff are so fabulous:
a) Staff - confident, comprehensive in all they say and do (I am watching very CLOSELY and always skeptical).
b) Dr A, upon meeting, struck me as so sincerely real (verbal and body language) that we were ever so delightfully surprised! His approach is comprehensive, meticulous, he sites research data and the Dr who completed it. He spent a total of 1.5 hrs with us, exam, walking through the 3 options, pricing and exactly what he does. Let me tell you... the value ADD is truly excellent. His pricing was in line with the others, HOWEVER, when the details of the 3 options were explained, it turned out a few hundred dollars less expensive for option 2 (using PORCELAIN crowns.. the best if you can do it)than the other "front runner's" option 3! There was no decision to be made! It was done. He examined John and showed me the xrays (after all I am "dangerous" - as I have been in the industry) and walked me through what he would do precisely. His whole approach was such quality and value added!
c) Dr A is an artist, scientist and total impassioned about his work. Today the surgery commenced. Not an easy case.. lots of infected bone, more than he thought from the xrays. He did an added layer of collagen (AT HIS OWN COST) to help the diseased are. If you are a woman over 40 and reading this... you might know what collagen (sp?) costs. BIG BUCKS. No extra charge to us, however, because he is passionate about doing it RIGHT.
You will find he is busy, busy.. but he hates to not be busy as he gets bored.
d) One of his assistants is a new Dr. She wants to learn it all from Dr A, so that is why she is here. He insists his protocol and instructions must be followed precisely. WE ARE doing that, and John is sitting up right next to me.. not taken a pain pill since he left the office. We know men can be macho and "not need anything" (lord...). But he is clearly not in pain. I have worked aside a surgeon myself.. and THIS is the sign of a finely tuned clinical approach! Enjoy Dr A and staff.

I have been to Costa Rica twice for dental. When I first started to research dental in CR on the web it was very confusing. I found a great stateside group Costa Rican Dental - http://costaricandental.com/
They are a free stateside Costa Rican dental referral service. They knew a lot about all kinds of things. Any question I had they had the answer.

I ended up going with Dr. Obando - Nova Dental Clinic. Wonderful experience. If you need implants or lots of crowns replaced then I give Nova Dental 5 stars.

If you are thinking about dental in Costa Rica check out Costa Rican Dental. They gave me the confidence to know I would get good dental.

I don't know about the other dentists they work with by Dr. Obando is wonderful.

I think it is very important when you visit a dentist out of the country to get everything in writing and not just discuss over the phone. Start your treatment early in your stay because if something goes wrong you need to be there. Do not assume that what is said is what will happen. Get the worse case and best case scenario so that you can plan for the worse case. It is hard to change travel plans after the fact and much easier to do it ahhead of time. Insist that you have a treatment plan with an itemized bill so that you know what the entire procedure will cost not just a small portion of it. This was our experience with Costa Rica dental clinic Smile 90210 or Esthetic Dental, run by Mike Lomax. We learned alot and I hope this helps some one else.

my own doctors & dentists here in the united states are impressed with the dental work i received in costa rica.
can't say enough nice things about them!
